This is a course that will familiarize you with the basics of splitboarding/ski-touring movement, the necessary equipment, and introduce you to avalanche safety/rescue. We will look in detail how to read the terrain and to choose a safe route of ascent and descent and how best to plan the day in the mountains.
Day 1 we will learn the fundamental skills of safe backcountry travel and reacreation. Including how to use an avalanche beacon, rescue techniques, snow stability tests, and tour planning.
On day 2 we will learn how to use a Split-board/touring ski and climbing skins, uphill travel techniques (track setting, kick- and step-turns, pacing), downhill travel techniques (route selection, turning in varying snow conditions). And of course lots of hands-on experience.
1 day in classroom: theory, trip planning, navigation, equipment preparation and use
1 day in field: Moving through the mountains, terrain analysis, partner rescue, intro to snow analysis.
All necessary rescue equipment provided (beacon, probe, shovel, backpack)
Full board accommodation.
